The poor credit facilities and services that were available to the people and businesses of Lipa and its surrounding communities became the impetus for the establishment of a new financial institution. Then in early 1956, a group of prominent Lipa residents, headed by Dr. Jose R. Segismundo and Mrs. Emilia Segismundo, laid the ground work for what was to become known as the Malarayat Rural Bank, Inc. (MRB), now a formidable financial institution in Lipa and the whole of Batangas.
